Puppy Socialisation and Home Obedience

The Puppy Socializing and Home Obedience course is aimed at puppies from 18 weeks and older. At this point in time they should preferably have participated in an introductory puppy socializing or CGC Puppy Foundation group. At this age socializing and play is still the main focus, but the puppies are also introduced to a slightly more formal approach to training. Preparing them for more advanced training classes where they will be expected to work before play.

Elementary Obedience

To obtain the Elementary Obedience Certificate requires your dog to successfully have completed the following target behaviours. Training for this level falls under the Beginner groups. Relevant age group is 6 months and older.

• Heel on lead
• Recall
• Finish
• Sit-Stay – 30 Seconds
• Down- Stay – 1 Minute
• Quiet- Attached – 2 Minutes

Beginner Obedience

Handler and dog teams must have achieved at least an 80% pass in the Elementary Obedience exam, to qualify for the Beginner Obedience Certificate.

Beginner Obedience is the first level of competitive participation at Championship Shows. Training for level falls under Beginner to Intermediate groups. Relevant age group 9 months and older. Gaining the Beginner Obedience Certificate requires your dog to successfully complete the following target behaviours.

• Heel on lead
• Recall and finish
• Retrieve Handlers Article
• Sit-Stay – 1 Minute
• Down-Stay – 2 Minutes
• Quiet-Attached Stay - 3 Minutes

Novice Obedience

Handler and dog teams must have received at least 90% in Beginner Obedience exam, to qualify for the Novice Obedience Certificate. Training for this level falls under Intermediate groups.

Gaining the Novice Obedience Certificate requires your dog to successfully complete the following target behaviours.

• Heel on lead
• Heel Free
• Recall
• Retrieve Handlers Dumbbell
• Sit-Stay – 1 Minute
• Down-Stay – 3 Minutes
